Gov. Youngkin announces unemployment remains steady

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.6 percent in September.

This remains below the national unemployment rate of 3.5 percent.

The number of unemployed Virginians decreased by 885 people which leaves the final unemployment rate the lowest number since 2001.

The Governor said that the state remains focused on returning Virginians to the workforce and implementing policies that get Virginians off the sidelines to meet opportunities for great jobs in the Commonwealth.

Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick remarked that Virginia’s top priority is getting more residents into the labor force.

One of the largest gains over the year was in Leisure and Hospitality, Education and Health services were a strong second.
