Grottoes honors their former Police Chief Painter

The town of Grottoes celebrated at the Chief Charlie’s Kid’s fish day led by the Grottoes Police Department with the announcement of the renaming and re-dedication of Mountain View Park.

The park will now be known as the John E. Painter Park in honor of Grottoes’ former Police Chief John E. Painter who served the town for 18 years as an Officer, Sergeant and Police Chief.

Chief Painter made the ultimate sacrifice with fellow Officer and friend J. J. Jefferson on February 1 defending Bridgewater College Campus from a gunman.

The Grottoes’ Town Council unanimously adopted the resolution to rename the park and honor Chief Painter in a special session.

Council members acknowledged that Chief Painter will forever live in their hearts and they  will continue his legacy in honor of his dutiful service to the Grottoes community.
