Hampshire County Authorities investigate a homicide

Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office reports the continued investigation of a homicide that occurred last Wed. Oct. 26.

Detectives determined the incident was isolated when two males apparently got into a situation that escalated into gunfire.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Mack Road and St. Peter Lane near Augusta West Virginia at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Shawn Davis reportedly approached John Dulaney’s vehicle holding a knife.

Dulaney rolled down his window and began talking with Davis when a verbal altercation between the men ensued.

Dulaney reports that Davis reached through the window with the knife.

Dulaney, who was in lawful possession of a firearm shot Davis twice in the upper chest in rapid succession in defense.

Dulaney exited the vehicle immediately called 911 and began CPR on Davis.

Despite the resuscitation effort Davis succumbed to his wounds at the scene.

Several children waiting for a school bus nearby witnessed the event.

Authorities are interviewing the children which takes a longer period of time than when interviewing adults.

The children have been provided with counseling and resources by Authorities to assist with trauma.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Romney Police Department.
