December 11, 2019
GORE – Jamie Lee Baker, a West Virginia native, was killed following a head on collision on Carpers Pike in Frederick County.
Baker was traveling south on Carpers Pike behind a tractor-trailer Monday afternoon. Just after 2 pm, she attempted to pass the truck illegally, crossing over the double-yellow lined lane. Her 2001 Hyundai quickly collided with a box truck that was traveling north. The impact crumpled Baker’s vehicle, and pushed it 25 yards downhill. The truck stopped on a nearby embankment.
Baker died on impact according to Frederick County Authorities. The driver of the box truck did not suffer any injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Work crews had the road cleared and reopened by 6 pm.
Baker had appeared in the Frederick County General District Court that morning to face charges of reckless driving due to improper brakes, driving on a suspended license and failure to show proof of insurance. She was 37 years old.
