International Grant Will Help Prevent Valley Drug Abuse

10 August 2018 News

The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition has received a new grant funded both locally and internationally.

Not only did the Rotary Club of Winchester partner with Clarke, Frederick, and Warren area clubs to donate $38,000, but Rotary International donated a total of $36,000 as well. $12,000 of this money came from Rotarians in India, while $5,000 came from a club in Taiwan; this marks the first time international clubs have donated money towards a Virginia grant. Coalition Executive Director Lauren Cummings has been quoted as saying that $43,000 of the grant will go toward outpatient drug treatment for addicted youths, and another $30,000 will fund the purchase of 3,000 saliva drug testing kits; these will allow parents to test their children, with the hope of deterring young people from using drugs.
