No Issues During Battle of Cedar Creek Anniversary

22 October 2018 Frederick County News

Despite security concerns, Frederick County Sheriff Lenny Millholland has reported no issues or problems during events commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek this weekend.

Most fears over this year’s events stemmed from last year’s reenactment, which was cut short when a suspicious object was found on the battlefield. The FBI conducted an investigation but did not disclose its results or make any arrests; former Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation President Joe D’Arezzo was quoted as saying that the object was a bomb, and stepped down this year because he did not feel the foundation was taking security seriously enough.

Despite security worries and the cancellation of this year’s reenactment, several hundred people attend the weekend’s events; crowds toured exhibits at the historic Belle Grove Plantation, watched demonstrations by the 10th Virginia Voluntary Infantry Regiment, and participated in Middletown’s luminaries event honoring those who died during the 1864 battle.
