Judge Clay Athey Appointed to Va. Appeals Court
Judge Clifford “Clay” L. Athey has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Virginia Court of Appeals.
Athey currently serves as a judge in the 26th Judicial Circuit, which encompasses the city of Winchester and Clarke, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren counties. His appointment to the new position was made official Thursday (2/14/2019) in Virginia’s General Assembly, and will fill a vacancy left by Teresa M. Chafin, who has been appointed to Virginia’s Supreme Court. Athey has a decade of political experience, having served himself in the House of Delegates from 2002 to 2011, and was appointed a circuit court judge by Bob McDonnell in 2012. He’s set to start in the appeals court in September.
