Kaine introduces bill supporting student success and career readiness

Senators Tim Kaine and Todd Young have introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at boosting student success and career readiness.

The Assisting Community Colleges in Educating Skilled Students to Careers Act will help students have access to support services like career navigators and counselors while helping create career pathways for the changing skill demands of the economy.

The ACCESS to Careers Act authorizes the Secretary of Education to provide:

  • grants to states to develop strategies supporting students and partnerships with local employers
  • grants to community colleges to increase the number of students working towards high-skill, in-demand industries by supporting paid internships and establishing processes to award students credits for skills gained outside the classroom
