30 October 2018 Uncategorized
Runners can still register for this weekend’s fifth annual Battlefield Half Marathon.
The 13.1-mile race will be held this coming Saturday at 8 a.m., and will end at around 11:30 a.m. The course starts at the Kernstown Battlefield on Battle Park Drive, and finishes at the Creekside Station shopping center near the edge of Winchester. Those who don’t wish to participate in the full half-marathon can also participate in a two-person 10K event or a four-person 5K. Relay participants must arrive at the battlefield at 6:30 a.m., so that buses can drop them off at their split locations.
Full and partial road closures will take place as a result of the race. Those include: Saratoga Drive, Middle Road from Saratoga Drive to Germany Road, Germany Road from Middle Road to Springdale Road, Springdale Road, Shady Elm, and Apple Valley Road from Shady Elm Road to Middle Road. Proceeds from the marathon will go towards the Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter, which provides cold weather shelter to the homeless population of Winchester and Frederick and Clarke counties. Those interested must register online by noon on Friday, or can register that day from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Pro Physical Therapy on Valley Avenue.
