The Waynesboro Police Department reports additional information on the Westwood Hills Elementary School shooting. The investigation into the

September 2 shooting is being conducted by federal, state, and local law enforcement. The latest information confirms that Anthony I. Ignatiadis-

Isabelle parked his vehicle at Ridgeview Park and walked to the school at 548 Rosser Avenue with a 20-gauge shotgun. The suspect forced his way into

the school by shooting through a rear door and breaking through it. At this point in the investigation, it appears the suspect acted alone with no co-

conspirators suspected at this time. There appears to be no connection between the suspect and the staff member who was wounded in the incident. That

staff member is recovering from those injuries. School Resource Officers were some of the first to respond to the school arriving a minute thirty seconds

after notification. Additional law enforcement arrived less than 3 minutes after notification of the intruder. As a precautionary measure all Waynesboro

schools can expect an increase in law enforcement at all area schools for the foreseeable future. Again, the actions of Westwood Hills Elementary School

staff in enacting immediate lockdown procedures are to be commended and helped to prevent a worse situation. The assailant was found deceased in the

school library minutes after law enforcement arrived on the scene. No students were in the library at the time. This is a very active and ongoing

investigation.
