AUSTIN, Texas – Senior men’s lacrosse standout Stephen LaTona has been named first team Academic All-District V in selections announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
LaTona, who has a 3.90 GPA as a finance major, is now a candidate for Academic All-America. He would be the 17th student-athlete, and third men’s lacrosse player, to earn Academic All-America accolades should he be selected.
The Ellicott City, Maryland native is the second Shenandoah University student-athlete to earn Academic All-District honors in the past two weeks. Classmate Jake Loew was selected to the baseball All-District V team last week.
LaTona led the ODAC this season in goals with 52 as SU won a program-record-tying nine games and made its first appearance in the ODAC Tournament. He was also selected as the ODAC Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
LaTona is a two-time All-ODAC honoree with the 2017 All-ODAC selections announced later today. Last season, he was named as the ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to being named third team All-ODAC.
Last month, LaTona picked up Class of 2017 Outstanding Male Student-Athlete honors in a vote of athletic department personnel.
LaTona graduates as the all-time leader in both goals and points at Shenandoah and he was a two-year co-captain of the team.
Off-the-field, he was a part of Alpha Lambda Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa and was an Academic All-State selection twice.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must have at least a 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or important reserve on their squads. Nominees are then voted on in one of eight districts across the country by CoSIDA members.
The Academic All-America team will be announced next month.
