Local school districts respond to unmarked buses

Shenandoah County Public Schools (SCPS) issued a reminder that only properly marked SCPS school buses will pick up and drop off children following a safety notice issued by Fairfax County Public Schools.

The Office of Safety and Security for FCPS and local police districts were notified on April 13th about a white bus with a blue stripe attempting to pick up a child at a bus stop in the area of Southington Lane in Reston.

An unfamiliar driver described as a while male with facial hair attempted to pick up the student but shut the door and drove away when confronted by a community member.

A second incident occurred later the same morning when a yellow, unmarked school bus with black stripes attempted to pick up elementary school children at a bus stop near Chynoweth Street and Telegraph Road in Lorton.

The driver of this bus also drove away when confronted and is described as a male with long curly brown hair, a dark hat, dark clothing, and wearing a surgical mask.

Remind your students that take the bus to look for markings and to reach out to a trusted adult if something does not seem right.
