Local and State Leaders Respond to New Amazon HQ
14 November 2018 Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News
Local and state leaders are reacting to the news yesterday (11/13/2018) that Amazon has decided to split its second headquarters and 50,000 high paying jobs between New York and Crystal City in Northern Virginia.
The executive director of the Frederick County Economic Development Authority, Patrick Barker, said that it’s impossible to gauge the scale of the new headquarters’ effect on the local economy, but that he looks forward to a new inflow of commuters, tourists, and retirees that will provide a positive boost. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner and 10th District Congresswoman-elect Jennifer Wexton all reacted positively to the news. However, Wexton was quoted as voicing concerns about the 10th district area’s ability to accommodate the road, school, and housing needs associated with the 25,000 new Northern Virginia jobs.
