MIDDLETOWN, VA. – About 120 people were on hand last night for the first regional Entrepreneur Café at Lord Fairfax Community College.
Leading up to Tuesday evening’s event, the Entrepreneur Café provided a forum where small businesses competed in a Shark-tank like event to become finalists in the competition.
The six entrepreneur finalists presented their project to a panel of judges and a live audience with a five-minute pitch followed by questions and answers from the audience and judges regarding the finalist’s goals, experience and business plan; up for grabs was a cash prize of $5,000 and a marketing package valued at over $3,500.
Members of the community were invited to participate for a $10 admission fee, which was used to provide a cash award to the audience favorite based on audience votes.
The business selected by the judges for the $5,000 prize was Bill Long’s Auto Care Clinic of Front Royal. The Audience Favorite award went to Route 11 Outfitters Company of Woodstock, an outdoor adventure company owned by Laura Gomez that offers kayaking and tubing adventures on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.
Long said he planned to use the cash prize to pay for one of three hydraulic lifts to be installed in an addition to his existing business, which is located north of Front Royal on U.S. Route 522.
