Lord Fairfax Health District Issues Rabies Alert
The Lord Fairfax Health District issued a rabies alert early today (1/31/2019).
The warning comes after local animal control captured a rabid raccoon Monday (1/28/2019) on Squaw Path Way, located in the Blue Mountain Subdivision in Linden. The raccoon is know to have interacted with one dog, which has been place on 45 day confinement. There are no known reports of bites or scratches to any humans from this animal, but the Warren County Health Department is urging anyone who may have been exposed to saliva from a raccoon around this time period to seek care at the nearest emergency department. Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms set in, but can be prevented with treatment immediately after exposure.
