Luray High School temporarily evacuated

marketing leverage program grant

Luray High School was temporarily evacuated Monday afternoon May 2 after smoke was seen coming from the building.

Around 2 p.m. smoke was reported in the school’s common area when the fire department was called.

The school was evacuated for approximately 15 minutes as authorities investigated.

Fire personnel were able to determine the smoke was coming from a malfunctioning furnace.

Fire officials were able to remedy the situation quickly and students, staff and faculty were able to safely re-enter the building at approximately 2:15 p.m..

By 2:40 p.m. school officials posted on the Page County Public School website that the situation had been remedied.

The post goes on to praise the quick response of local emergency services.

Luray High School Principal Nicky Clark went on to praise the response of students and staff.

According to the post the principal said the students and staff handled the situation beautifully.
