Man Killed Crossing I-81 in Frederick County

State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Frederick County.
A 23-year-old West Virginia man was driving south on Interstate 81 at 5:40 a.m. Friday (3/18/2019) when the incident occurred; he was around 1 and a half miles north of Route 11 when a man suddenly ran into the southbound travel lanes and in front of his vehicle. The driver was unable to avoid striking him, and the man died at the scene. Police determined that he had walked to the interstate from a rest area at mile marker 320. His remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassass for identification and autopsy. No charges have been placed against the driver, and the investigation continues.
