19 December 2016 News

Charles Henry Cook, 43 of Clear Brook received 63 years in prison with eight years suspended for his involvement in an incident that occurred February 7, 2016. Cook has stated he felt depressed and was trying to commit “suicide by cops.” He shot ten rounds at five Frederick County deputies and Virginia State Police Troopers. The incident took place on Brown’s Lane, outside of his residence. In court Friday, Cook plead no contest to the charges of attempted capitol murder.

Deputies were dispatched to his home after a 911 call was placed, reporting someone inside his home was trying to commit suicide. Authorities tried to calm Cook down but he later began firing shots. An officer fired a shot that struck Cook and he was taken to Winchester Medical Center. Upon his release he was taken into custody.
