Martinsburg reassures residents City water is safe after incident

The City of Martinsburg West Virginia reports that city water is safe.

This declaration was made after an employee reported to work Apr. 13 and discovered a body in a wastewater tank.

The wastewater tank is adjacent to the Martinsburg Big Springs Water Treatment Plant.

Emergency Medical Services and Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were notified immediately, and the investigation was launched.

The particular tank where the body was found contains impurities and other materials that are removed from drinking water.

None of the water from that tank is reintroduced into the city’s drinking water.

The water from such a tank is taken to the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Martinsburg City officials have consulted with all pertinent regulatory agencies who have confirmed that the City’s drinking water is safe.

The investigation into the body found is ongoing.
