30 April 2018 News

The 24th annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America will bring seven NASCAR stars through Winchester in early May.

Kyle Petty, Richard Petty, Harry Grant, Hershel McGriff, Donnie Allision, and Ricky Craven will be stopping in the city as part of their twelve-hundred mile fundraising motorcycle ride from Portland, Maine to Greensboro, North Carolina. Super Bowl Champion and Heisman Trophy Winner Herschel Walker will also be joining the group, totaling around 200 riders, as they breeze into town. Money raised from trips in the past have gone towards efforts such as helping the families of fallen first responders and funding children’s hospitals. The Winchester community is invited to meet the riders at Grove’s Winchester Harley-Davidson on May 9th at 5 p.m.

Rider Richard Petty will also serve as Sports Marshal of the 91st Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Petty will be accompanied by “The Car” on his visit to the Apple Capital. Named “Legacy by Petty,” the vehicle is a unique Dodge Challenger convertible that was built to commemorate Richard Petty’s 200 wins and other lifetime achievements, complete with custom airbrush artwork detailing key moments in his career. Petty will ride in it in the Shenandaoh Apple Blossom’s  Grand Feature Parade on Saturday, May 5th.
