New dates added for Basic Firearms Safety Class
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has announced their Basic Firearms Safety Classes for January, February, and March are all full. To accommodate the volume of requests, the Sheriff’s Office is scheduling dates in April. If there is a continued interest, future monthly dates will be scheduled throughout 2020.
The free 2-hour course will cover basic operation of firearms; dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling of firearms; and federal and state laws pertaining to firearms. The firearms instructors are certified through Virginia’s Department of Criminal Justice Services, so the class will meet the requirements of Virginia Code §18.2-308.02(B) for obtaining a concealed handgun permit. A certificate will be issued to the student at the completion of the class.
The classes will be held at the Frederick County Public Safety Building at 1080 Coverstone Drive with classes limited to 25 adults per class. Pre-registration is required to attend. Please specify which class you would like to attend, and an alternative class date, in case your preferred class date is full. There are no residence requirements to attend the class.
Additional classes for April will be held Monday, April 6, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday April 18, from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Please contact Captain Aleck Beeman at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-504-6508 to register. Captain Beeman will contact you to notify you of your acceptance in the class or to notify you if the class is already full. However, because of the large volume of requests, it may take several days for his response.
