New Plans for Afton Inn Renovation to be Discussed
9 July 2018 News
Renovation plans for the Afton Inn in Front Royal are progressing.
According to the Front Royal/Warren County Economic Development Authority, the annexation of the historic building that faces North Royal Avenue is set to be demolished. The finished inn will also include upper-floor apartments, mid-level offices, and a ground-floor restaurant with a meeting room. The initial phase will revolve around preserving the structure by stabilizing areas; renovations will come later on.
These plans come after the building was almost completely demolished under a July 2017 plan, the permit for which was denied by the town’s Board of Architectural Review in order to preserve the historic structure. Despite the Front Royal Town Council overturning the Board’s vote, the developer later decided it would rather demolish only a portion of the building, and announced its new approach in May. The Board will be meeting Tuesday to discuss details of the new plan, but is not expected to have a vote on the matter.
