Norfolk Southern plans rail work in Clarke County

Norfolk Southern Corporation will be replacing railroad ties at the crossing on Berryville’s East Main Street possibly Monday.

The work was schedule to begin this week according to a Clarke County announcement.

The work is subject to weather conditions and has been delayed.

Detour signs are expected to be in place possibly today June 8 before work begins.

Once work begins U. S. Routes 340 and Virginia 7 will be the primary detour routes around E. Main Street in Berryville.

The railroad crossing work requires both travel lanes to be closed for the duration of the repairs which are expected to take at least 2 days.

Once the work on the Main Street Rail crossing is done Norfolk Southern Corporation will move up to the Boom Road crossing for additional work.

Motorist need to be aware of signage and detours expected in the days to follow.
