Northam Announces New Local Tourism Grants

1 February 2019 Luray/Page County Shenandoah County Front Royal/Warren County Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

Yesterday (1/31/2019), Governor Ralph Northam announced more than $625,000 in matching grant funds to be awarded to 33 local tourism initiatives.

The move is part of the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s Marketing Leverage Program, and is designed to help local and regional tourism entities attract more visitors. Organizations in the Shenandoah Valley will benefit directly, including Shenandoah County government, the Northern Shenandoah Valley Regional Commission, and the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, Inc. Those three alone will receive a combined $80,000 in matching funds from the state. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Ball said in a release yesterday that “Tourism is an important part of Virginia’s economy as it adds to our economic diversity and is an instant revenue generator.”
