Northam signs executive order to ensure liability protections for health care workers

29 April 2020 Covid19 News

Gov. Northam yesterday signed Executive Order Sixty, which reinforces certain existing statutory liability protections for Virginia health care workers.

Due to COVID-19, public and private health care providers are operating with limited resources and may be forced to serve patients outside of conventional standards of care. Virginia’s code offers protection to health care workers and first responders in cases of emergency and this order clarifies these statues protect those operating during the COVID-19 crisis. Nothing in the order prevents liability in the case of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
