Opioid Strike Force Moves into Shenandoah Valley

18 April 2019 Luray/Page County Shenandoah County Front Royal/Warren County Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

The Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid Strike Force is moving into the Shenandoah Valley.

The announcement came Wednesday (4/17/2019) from Attorney General William Barr and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar, along with news that the ARPO Strike Force has charged 60 individuals across 11 federal districts for illegally prescribing and distributing opioids. Those defendants included 53 medical professionals.

The strike force began work in December, and unites the expertise of the Health Care Fraud Unit, law enforcement, and U.S. Attorney’s Offices across six states to combat health care fraud schemes. The Western District of Virginia, which encompasses Warren, Frederick, Clarke, Shenandoah, and Page counties in its Harrisonburg division, will be the tenth ARPO Strike Force district in the U.S.
