Overturned Car Found in Shenandoah River

10 July 2018 News

A vehicle was found in the Shenandoah River yesterday morning near New Market.

The Ford Crown Victoria was discovered in the river at a point near River Road and Manor Hill Lane, west of the Shenandoah County town. Law enforcement responded to a call about the vehicle, which was discovered overturned in the water, at around 8:15 a.m. According to reports, authorities from the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police could be seen at the location of the wreck. It was extracted from the water with help from fire and rescue personnel.

State Police Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler said this morning that officers had discovered no one inside after searching the vehicle. State trooper J.T. Custer is currently conducting an investigation. He has been able to locate the owner and other parties involved, and it does not appear that anyone was inside of the car when it entered the lake. Sgt. Tyler told The River 95.3 that while the investigation continues, there is no search active at this time.
