Winchester Petition Seeks School Board Referendum
12 April 2019 Winchester News
A Winchester citizen filed a petition for a referendum on the appointment of School Board members last Friday (4/5/2019).
If it gains 1,700 signatures, citizens would be asked on the November 5th ballot whether they believe members of the School Board should continue to be appointed by City Council, or whether their seats should be subject to election. Roya Milotte said Thursday (4/11/2019) that she was first motivated to file the petition last year, when City Council failed to appoint anyone to the city’s Ward 3 School Board position. She said that the recent denial of Title IX cases submitted by a student identified as Francesca further pushed her to file, in order to make the board more accountable for its actions. As of Thursday afternoon, the petition had garnered 36 signatures.
