An Update from Warren County Administrator Doug Stanley

We were in the studio for a live version of Municipal Monday with Warren County Administrator Doug Stanley to get an update on their coronavirus efforts, and to discuss the budget process.

Doug explained the various budget cuts & changes and how they will impact the community. We talked about the county’s re-opening plan that includes opening the offices of the Treasurer and Commissioner of Revenue, plus he told us about the parks & public spaces re-opening. We also talked about other projects happening in and around the county.

Lonnie's Fun Fact for Monday July 13, 2020. Have you ever heard of a trombiculid mite? I'll bet you have, just not by that name. Be prepared to itch. A trombiculid mite is better known as a chigger. You might hear people call them harvest mites, harvest bugs, harvest lice, mower's mites, or red bugs. What ever you call them they are tiny arachnids that live in grassy areas. The babies, or larvae, are the ones responsible for biting that cause a red, itchy rash. Chiggers don't spread diseases, but all that scratching can cause a skin infection at the site of the bite. If you suspect you've been visited by trombiculid mites take a hot shower and use lots of soap to help wash away any stragglers. Then treat your bites with an over-the-counter anti-itch cream or ointment, like menthol, calamine lotion, or hydrocortisone. Essential oils like Tea Tree or peppermint can repel chiggers as well as other crawly creatures and can help the healing process once you've been bitten.
