Citizen’s Fire Academy: Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico & Joe Woodall
12 September 2016
Joe Woodall & Janet Michael were joined in the studio for an interview with Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico to discuss the 5th class in the Citizen’s Fire Academy series: Special Operations. We talked about the “high risk/low frequency” events that take place in our community requiring special operations such as water rescue & recovery as well as automobile extractions. These are all events that seldom happen (thankfully) in our community but still require training to build the knowledge, skills and abilities to manage them in a safe & effective way.
If you’re interested in learning more, attend a Volunteer Orientation. They are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Public Safety Building located at 200 Skyline Vista Drive, Front Royal. For more information visit their website: http://www.warrencountyfire.com/ or call 540-636-3830.
Below is a video from the class on Tuesday, September 6 of the volunteer trainees demonstrating the use of “jaws of life” for a vehicle extrication.
