Community Health: Outpatient Behavioral Health
19 December 2019
We were in the studio for a conversation with Molly Tahmaseb & Tim Vaughn, counselors at Winchester Medical Center’s Outpatient Behavioral Health as part of our continuing community health series in partnership with Valley Health.
Our discussion centered around some of the challenges that face people this time of year, including holiday stress and depression. We talked about:
- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) – a type of depression that comes and goes with the seasons, typically starting in the late fall and early winter and going away during the spring and summer – symptoms and strategies for coping/prevention
- Setting boundaries year-round with friends & family members will help make holiday stress easier to manage
- Creating new & celebrating old traditions as a way of coping with grief during the holidays
- Why so many New Year’s resolutions fail & strategies to be more successful in setting and fulfilling them
