FredCo Parks & Rec: Upcoming Races, Events & Trips

11 October 2019

We were in the studio for a fun conversation today with Tony Baker & Chris Konyar from Frederick County Parks & Recreation Department. We talked about a few upcoming races happening in November, learned the details for Winter Wonderland at Clear Brook Park kicking off on Black Friday and chatted a bit about the upcoming trip to New York City that’s usually a sellout every year. The details for each including registration information is below.

Battlefield Half Marathon & Relays: At 13.1 miles the race is welcoming for casual runners but still provides a challenge for more seasoned participants. The starting line is located in historic Kernstown Battlefield with the majority of the course following scenic Middle Road and country roads through Frederick County. The race concludes with an exciting finish in Creekside Station. Not up for doing all of the 13.1 miles on your own? Grab a group of friends or co-workers and put together a two or four person relay team and come join the fun. This event is truly for everyone! Click here for relay information. Racers are encouraged to pick up their race packets prior to race day at the Health & Wellness Expo on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 4:30pm – 7pm at Pro Motion/Pro Physical Therapy. This expo features the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays.

Thanksgiving 5k: Run, walk, or stroll prior to your Thanksgiving feast. The certified 5k course travels, track, pavement, and the woodland trails of Sherando Park. This 5k run is an electronic chip time’s event with a start time of 8:45 am at Sherando High School. Proceeds benefit the FCPRD Play Fund. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers, top master male and female, and to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each age group. Pre-registered participants are encouraged to pick-up their bib number and T-shirt at the Sherando Community Center on Room Tuesday (11/26) or Wednesday (11/27) from 4-9p.m. Onsite registrations will receive shirts while supplies last. For more registration information, click here or call 540-665-5678.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland: A lighted walking holiday tour through Clearbook Park. Highlights include hundreds of thousands of lights, Santa & Mrs Claus in the log cabin, and an wonderful computer controlled display coordinated with music. The event opens on Friday, November 29, 2019 and runs through Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Clearbrook Park.
