Front Royal VFW Post 1860
5 August 2019
We were in the studio today with Commander Jeff Cook, Junior Vice Commander & Adjutant Mark Brown, and Quartermaster Scott Simmons from Front Royal’s VFW Post 1860 for a conversation about the history of their post, the devastating effects of the fire on July 12, 2015 and their goals and status for the rebuilding of the post.
Jeff gave us an overview of VFW’s in general and talked about the embezzlement and then fire that has impacted the post’s ability to contribute to our community. Mark gave us a bit of history surrounding the name – Colonel Samuel R. Millar – the post is named after. Scott told us about his duties as Quartermaster and provided some insight into life “before the fire” at the post.
We also discussed the future plans for rebuilding and their current fundraiser/raffle that will raise funds towards that project. The raffle tickets are $50 each – you can purchase tickets here: http://www.vfw1860.org/Raffle/ or visit Mark this week at Warren County Fair to purchase a ticket in person. Only 5000 raffle tickets will be sold.
