Fun Fact April 1, 2021.

1 April 2021

Today is the one day of the year when you need to be on your toes, lest you become the victim of an April Fools prank.  The exact origin of April Fools, or All Fools day, is not exactly clear.  Historians do know that it has been celebrated by various cultures for several centuries.  It may go back to France in 1582 when that country switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563.  Those who didn’t get the memo continued to celebrate the first day of the year on or around April first, rather than January first.  Fools.  Another theory links April Fools’ Day to festivals such as Hilaria, which was celebrated in ancient Rome at the end of March and involved people dressing up in disguises.  The day became wide spread in Brittan in the 18th century and in Scotland it is actually a two day event.  There have been some classic pranks over the years.  In 1957, the BBC reported that Swiss farmers were experiencing a record spaghetti crop and showed footage of people harvesting noodles from trees.  One year, Taco Bell said that they had purchased the Liberty Bell and were going to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell.  And who can forget the time Burger King introduced the Left Hander Whopper.  This will be my last fun fact.  APRIL FOOLS!
