Fun Fact April 13, 2020

Quarantined, been there doin’ that, but why is called that? When one is quarantined you are isolated from others. It’s a measure put in place to prevent the spread of disease. In the strictest definition people, animals and things are to be quarantined for 40 days, especially on ships or boarder entry points. As with most language the word has roots in Latin in this case the word quadraginta, which literally means 40. The first quarantine was enforced in Venice in 1377, keeping ships from plague stricken countries from docking until there were no cases onboard. In English the word meant “period of 40 days in which a widow has the right to remain in her dead husband’s house.” This from the 1520’s. If you recall your bible teaching, Jesus was technically quarantined in the desert. You remember, he spent 40 days there. If you are sick, please self quarantine for at least 14 days, but feel free to take the meaning of the word literally.
