A dreamy fun fact today. A dream is a succession of ideas, emotions, sensations and images that usually occur involuntarily in our minds during certain stages of sleep. We don’t fully understand or know the content and purpose of dreams, although they have been a topic of scientific, philosophical and religious interest throughout most recorded history. The scientific study of dreams is called oneirology. Dream interpretation is the attempt at drawing meaning from dreams and searching for an underlying message. As you can imagine opinions of what dreams mean are widely varied and differ from culture to culture and shift over time. The average person has three to five dreams per night, and some may have up to seven; however, most dreams are immediately or quickly forgotten. Dreams are not just a human thing, most if not all mammals experience dreams. Some great ideas have been the result of dreams. Google, the periodic table, the structure of our DNA, and “Yesterday” by the Beatles are all ideas that were conceived in dreams.
