We all get angry at times, but have you ever been angry enough to emit smoke from seven orifices? This is an Idiom from China and it means to be extremely angry. You can imagine your favorite cartoon character with smoke coming out of their ears. That would account for two of the seven orifices. The rest are the eyes, nostrils and the mouth. As if smoke coming from those seven isn’t enough, in Hindi when one is really angry you get smoke and embers. To quote the John Prine song, Bruised Orange, You can gaze out the window, get mad and get madder throw your hands in the air, say “What does it matter?”
But it don’t do no good to get angry so help me, I know. For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter, you’ll become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there wrapped up in a trap of your very own chain of sorrow. Any day you can quote John Prine is a good one.
