In this age of social distancing, you’ve got to wonder about the people who live on Santa Cruz del Islote. This small island is in the Archipelago of San Bernardo off the coast of Colombia and is the size of two soccer fields, or about two acres. The artificial island was first inhabited around 1870. It has four main streets and ten neighborhoods. Five hundred people live on the island in around on hundred fifty five houses. according to The Guardian With so many people packed into such a small space, it’s the most densely populated island in the world. This island can only be reached by ferry and most of the people who live there work on the mainland. There is no recreation or cemetery on the island, you have to go to a neighboring island. There is one school and one teacher. There is an educational center where students can attend through eleventh grade. Japan donated solar cells and batteries that provide the island with power 24 hours a day. Santa Cruz del Islote, population 500. Salute!
