Another idiom today; sleeping with one eye open. If you can do this, you are a master of sleeping. It means to be alert and aware of your surroundings, especially when you are sleeping. As it turns out several animals do actually sleep with one eye open. Certain species of ducks keep one eye open when they sleep. Dolphins not only sleep with one eye open, they sleep with half of their brain turned off. This not only keeps them alert for approaching predators, the half a brain that remains awake reminds them to surface to breath.
