Last weekend there was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake centered near Sparta, North Carolina. It was felt as far north as Lynchburg, Virginia nearly 175 miles away. If those who handle snakes were paying attention they may have known it was going to happen up to five days before it happened. That’s right, snakes can predict an earthquake up to 75 miles away and up to five days beforehand. According to scientists in China, snakes can sense the earthquake and They respond by behaving extremely erratically. According to Jiang Weisong, director of the earthquake bureau in Nanning, China, “When an earthquake is about to occur, snakes will move out of their nests, even in the cold of winter.
