Make it a red letter day! Have you ever heard or said that? I heard it on a television show I was watching over the weekend and wondered how that phrase came to be. According to the Oxford Dictionary it means a day that is pleasantly noteworthy or memorable. The earliest reference is from a book printed in 1490 where it said “We write in our calendars the high festies with red letters of color.” The phrase goes even further back, to the late 1300’s, when important and religious days were marked in red ink in calendars made in monasteries and convents. Here’s hoping that you either have or make it a red letter day!
