As the days get shorter and shorter most of us find ourselves wanting to take a nap. Now a good nap could last a few minutes, but what if it lasted longer. A lot longer, like years? Certain species of snails can sleep up to three years! A snail needs moisture to survive. If the weather is not cooperating, they can actually sleep up to three years. It has been reported that depending on geography, snails can shift into hibernation, like they do in the winter, or estivation, also known as ‘summer sleep’, helping to escape warm climates. A snail is, in loose terms, a shelled gastropod. Snails fall into three large categories; land snails, fresh water snails and sea snails.
