Today’s fun fact has gone to the dogs. Most of us love our dogs, they are part of the family, one of the kids. Did you know when a dog sneezes when they are playing with you it’s on purpose? They sneeze to show that they are only playing and don’t want to hurt you. A dog’s nose is damp to collect chemicals from the air, enhancing their sense of smell. Your dog can smell your feelings. In fact, your dog’s sense of smell is approximately 100,000 times better than yours. So it shouldn’t be shocking that they can in fact, smell things such as fear. After all, when you are fearful, you perspire, and a dog is easily able to pick up on this change. The United States has the highest population of pet dogs, over 75 million in fact. About 45% of dogs in America sleep in their owners bed. Dogs dream, just like us, but they are typically dreaming about their owners, believe it or not. Petting a dog and looking into their eyes release the brain chemical oxytocin, the love hormone, for both the human and the dog.
