We were joined in the studio by Neely Dahl, Tobacco Control Coordinator for the Northwest Region for the Virginia Department of Health’s Tobacco Use Control Program. We talked about their Quit Now Campaign and all the resources available to those in any stage of giving up tobacco. We also discussed misconceptions about e-cigarettes, vaping & hookah smoking as well as statistics such as the fact that 480,000 people die each year in the United States due to a smoking related disease – this equals the total population of Thomas Jefferson Health District (Nelson, Louisa, Greene, Charlottesville City, Louisa and Fluvanna) and Lord Fairfax Health District (Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Clarke, Frederick, and Winchester City.) For more information about the Quit Now Campaign, visit their website by clicking here. Or call the FREE hotline: 1-800-784-8669 to speak directly to a counselor who can answer your questions and help you start the process. The Quitline is not only for those that want to quit using tobacco, it is also for individuals who know they want to quit in the future, but are not quite ready to quit. If you have a loved one or a friend that is trying to quit or wants to quit, you can call and the quit coaches can provide advice and assistance in helping you help your loved one.
