Educating the Valley: Shenandoah County Public Schools
28 October 2019
We kicked off today’s show with a quick conversation with our own Afternoon Traffic Jam host, Lonnie Hill. We talked about an upcoming live broadcast he’ll be hosting at Auto Care Clinic on Saturday, November 2, 2019, his 5 o’clock Fun Fact on Facebook (and now a podcast!); and, got a quick update on Camping for Hunger happening the week of November 18-23, 2019.
After the break, we started our conversation with Dr. Mark Johnston, Superintendent of Shenandoah County Public Schools. This particular conversation kicked off a re-boot of our podcast series “Educating the Valley.” Join me for conversations with school superintendents from the surrounding six counties, with local teachers about their programs, with students about their projects, with athletes about their competitions from private schools, public schools and colleges. Some of those conversations will happen on The Valley Today, some will be podcast-only episodes, so make sure you’re subscribed!
Get every single episode as they’re released on our website under the podcast tab at the river 953.com OR you can subscribe for free in Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, on Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts – just search for Educating the Valley. Oh! And if you’re a teacher with a cool program or student you want to brag about; if you’ve got a fundraiser or an event you want to promote; or you just want to talk local sports, reach out! Send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your details and we’ll schedule YOUR episode!
Our conversation with Dr. Johnston included discussion about the school system in general, their accreditation process for 2018; teacher salaries and the budget process; as well as solar power coming to Triplett Tech.
