The Laurel Center: Domestic Violence Awareness Month
8 October 2018
We were in the studio with Cindy Marzullo from The Laurel Center to talk about Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We chatted about how women (and men) can remove themselves from unsafe domestic situations. Cindy also talked about what friends and family members can do if they suspect domestic violence in the home. She gave us the details on the many (free) programs they offer through The Laurel Center. You can reach someone on their hotline number 24 hours a day: 540-667-6466.
Their main event of Domestic Violence Awareness Month is the 27th Annual Candlelight Vigil on Thursday, October 18th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm on the Cameron Street steps of the Joint Judicial Center in Winchester, VA. The vigil is held to remember victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, to honor and support survivors, and to recognize those who work to end the cycle of violence. During the candlelight ceremony, there will be entertainment, poetry readings, and an open mike for survivors to speak. Luminaries representing the number of women and children who stayed in our shelter during the past year will be lit along the courthouse walls.
