Tourism Tuesday: COVID-19’s Impact on the Tourism Industry

We pre-recorded today’s conversation via Zoom with Nathan Garrison, President of Shenandoah Valley Travel Association and Helen Morton, VP Class A to talk about the impact COVID-19 shutdowns have had on the tourism industry and their membership base.

We talked about how their organization is determined to help it’s members survive the recent shutdown and guide them however they can through Phase Two re-openings and beyond. They both encourage current members to reach out and discuss payment options and for new members to reach out so they can help market them to tourists beginning to arrive in the area through their websites and travel guide.

Lonnie's Fun Fact for Friday April 16, 2021. A different type of animal. I usually try to include an animal in my weekly Fun Facts, but today it's not just one, it's a whole box of animals. This Sunday is National Animal Cracker day. According to National Day Calendar dot com animal crackers first came to the United States in the late 1800s when animal-shaped cookies were imported from England. In 1902, animal crackers officially became known as Barnum’s Animals and the familiar circus train theme of the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Later that year, Nabisco designed the now-familiar box with a string for the Christmas season to hang from the Christmas tree. In 2018, Nabisco, the current maker of Barnum’s Animal Crackers, released the animals from their cages on the train and set them free. The images on the side of the boxes now show the animals roaming freely in nature. In total, 53 different animals have been featured in boxes of animal crackers since 1902. ... See MoreSee Less
