Purcellville man arrested after discharge of firearm

A Purcellville man was arrested after a firearm he was handling during a traffic stop in the 600 block of Rt. 522 Winchester discharged.

Frederick County Deputy Cilento observed three small children with another adult in the vehicle before hearing the weapon fire.

Daniel Zachary Cook confessed to officers that he moved the weapon to hide it when it accidentally fired.

No one was hurt during the incident but the fired round exited the suspect’s vehicle striking the officer’s cruiser.

Cook faces numerous charges and is being held without bail.
