Randy’s Sports Update: Friday, June 15, 2018

15 June 2018 Sports

In the Valley Baseball League last night: Staunton derailed Strasburg: 17-9; Waynesboro beat Purcellville: 4-1; Covington hammered New Market: 11-2; and Charlottesville outslugged Harrisonburg: 11-4.

Tonight: Front Royal hosts New Market; Woodstock visits Winchester; Covington at Waynesboro; Strasburg entertains Purcellville; and Staunton travels to Harrisonburg.

The winner after day one of the US Open golf tournament was the golf course. Shinnecock Hills took it’s toll on the world’s top players yesterday. Only 4 players were able to shoot under par rounds. Among those was world number-one Dustin Johnson…who survived with a one-under 69 … good for a 4-way tie for first. Tiger Woods shot a 78, Phil Mickleson a 77, Jordan Spieth a 78, and Rory Mcilroy an 80 on day one.

The Nationals return to action tonight as they head north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a weekend series.  The Nats start tonight’s play in second place in the NL East … a game and a half back of the Braves. Air time is 6:30 on our sister station, Sports Radio 1450.

The Orioles entertain the Miami Marlins tonight in a battle of last-place teams. The O’s are still looking for their 20th win of the year. First pitch is 7:05 at Camden Yards.

And in the only World Cup action yesterday…host Russia defeated Saudi Arabia 5-0.  3 games are scheduled for today.
