REC Equipment Failure Knocks Out Power for Thousands

18 April 2019 Front Royal/Warren County Winchester Frederick County Clarke County News

Equipment providing a high voltage connection between Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and Dominion Energy failed just before midnight Wednesday (4/18/2019), knocking out power to more than 22,000 REC member-owners for about three hours.

The failure occurred at a substation in Caroline County that directs electricity to 11 other REC substations serving members in six counties and the Town of Bowling Green. REC crews were able to redirect the flow of power from other locations to restore electricity by 3:15 a.m. However, members affected by last night’s outage may experience brief blinks today as repairs are completed and power flow is returned to normal.
